Google launches Bard GenAI Canada and rebrands it as Gemini

Google today Bard, the generative artificial intelligence chatbot (GenAI), is now available for Canadians in both English and French. Bard, the chatbot, has been renamed Gemini.

Sissie Hiao, vice-president and general manager of Gemini experiences and Google assistant ExplainedName change: “Our mission with Bard has always been to give you direct access to our AI models, and Gemini represents our most capable family of models. To reflect this, Bard will now simply be known as Gemini.”

Google’s group product manager, Gemini experiences Jules Walter said Gemini is, a “much more powerful model,”The company launched the product in December in three sizes and different shapes to accommodate devices of different sizes.

Gemini Nano is a model that can handle smartphone processing on the device. Gemini Pro is for Bard. Gemini Ultra, a more powerful model capable to code and logical reasoning and is available as part of Gemini Advanced.

Gemini Advanced is now part of the new Gemini. Google One AI Premium Plan, launched today, is available for C$26.99 a month with a free two-month trial.

Jack Krawczyk is the product lead for Gemini Experiences. According to him, the plan includes the same features as the Google One Premium Plan plus what he calls “a few extras”. “the best of Google AI”Subscribers can also use Gemini in Gmail and in Google Docs, Slides and Sheets. Gemini for Google Workspace replaces Duet AI.

Apps for mobile devices will be available in the near future, but at first only in English. Android users will get a new Gemini application, while iOS users can access Gemini via the Google app.

Gemini is currently only accessible via its Website.
